Community Spotlight: Kwame Andam | Finding Art in Everyday Moments

Some photographers discover their passion through formal training.

For Kwame Andam, it began much more simply with a mobile phone, curiosity, and a willingness to see beauty in the world around him.

Long before professional cameras and client sessions, he was already creating images, capturing flowers, people, and the everyday moments that caught his attention.

Where It All Began

I have always had a passion for photography.

I started photography with a mobile phone, shooting flowers and people. Later, I got my first Kodak point-and-shoot camera, which helped me explore photography even further.

Along the way, I was fortunate to have good mentors, especially The Mfonyigrapher of Abapa Mfonyigraphy, whose guidance played an important role in my development as a photographer.

What started as a simple interest gradually became a creative journey, one built on observation, learning, and the desire to create meaningful images.

A Photograph with a Message

For Kwame, photography is not only about aesthetics; it is also about communicating ideas.

One of his favourite images carries a message that speaks directly to women, choice, and the value of time.

“Time isn’t infinite, and a woman’s body knows its own rhythm. But the power to choose belongs solely to her. Dear woman, you don’t have forever, make your decisions count.”

What makes this image special is not just the photograph itself, but the conversation it inspires.

It is a reminder that photographs can do more than document a moment; they can encourage reflection, spark dialogue, and communicate powerful messages.

Lessons Behind the Lens

The biggest lesson photography has taught me is that art can be found anywhere.

And the best camera you would own is the one in your hands.

It is a philosophy that has guided Kwame since the beginning.

From photographing flowers with a mobile phone to building a professional portfolio, he has learned that creativity is not determined by equipment alone. It begins with the perspective to see possibilities where others see ordinary moments.

Seeing Beauty Everywhere

Kwame Andam’s journey is a reminder that great photography often starts with simple beginnings.

A mobile phone.

A curious eye.

A willingness to learn.

And the belief that art exists all around us.

Today, that same mindset continues to shape his work, finding beauty in everyday scenes and transforming ordinary moments into meaningful images.
